I hear you singing

I hear you singing, Mom
You sang all day when I was a girl.
You sang in joy, sadness, and all the times I can recall
I began to sing with you
And now your voice is silenced by the big letter “D”
Your last song I will always remember
“The Yellow Rose of Texas!”
Go figure!
I wish I could hear you singing again.

This piece resonates with me til this day. Singing together long after propositional speech was lost, was my gateway to communication with Mom throughout her late stage dementia. I hope others will find a similar pathway with their loved ones.
